TUPC's Next Meeting
Topic: The Correlation Principle of Truth
Time: Thursday, November 6, 2008, at 6:00pm
Location: The Tiger's Den
Readings: "Truth," by Edwin Allaire
In his very controversial paper, Allaire argues that what he calls "the correlation principle of truth"--the idea that statements are made true by states of affairs, is mistaken. The paper takes up and amplifies a line of attack made on the principle made by Wittgenstein in the Philosophical Investigations. The paper is demanding. Luckily, it is also a model of excellent philosophical prose. It should be especially interesting to those of you who've spent some time studying modern analytic conceptions of truth and ontology.
